The new Permanent Representative of Brazil to the Organization of American States (OAS), Fernando Simas Magalhães, officially presented today the credentials that accredit him as Ambassador to the hemispheric institution.

During the ceremony at OAS headquarters in Washington, D.C., Ambassador Simas said he would follow the same path that his country has followed historically at the Organization. “Brazil is a country that has had an ongoing commitment to the values, principles and objectives of the OAS that are reflected in its constitutive documents, and I mean to move ahead with this policy,” said the Ambassador.

For his part, the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, highlighted the diplomatic experience of the new representative of Brazil and welcomed him, highlighting that “We receive an experienced diplomat with a distinguished career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, a founding member of the Organization and one of the pillars in the defense of democracy and the rights of the people.”

Ambassador Simas has served in the Missions of Brazil to the OAS and the United Nations, and was Ambassador of Brazil to Ecuador.
