The
Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States
(OAS), Ambassador Albert Ramdin, met on Monday with the Chair of the
Caribbean Community Grenada’s Prime Minister Tillman Thomas, on the
political developments in Haiti.
During the meeting which
took place at the Office of the Prime Minister in Grenada, Assistant
Secretary General Ramdin delivered to the CARICOM Chair the Official
Report of the OAS Experts who were asked to verify the first round
of Haiti’s elections. Ambassador Ramdin and Prime Minister Thomas
also discussed the concerns and challenges in Haiti and preparations
for the second round of the elections.
According to
Ambassador Ramdin, dialogue between the OAS and CARICOM on this
issue is significant given Haiti’s presence in both organizations.
Ramdin, who is also the Chair of the Haiti Task Force at the OAS,
raised the issue of collaboration between the OAS and CARICOM on
social and economic development in Haiti. “The Caribbean Community
has an important role to play in facilitating discussions on this
issue, both now and in the future,” said Ramdin.
While in
Grenada, the high ranking OAS official also met with Grenada’s
Minister of Foreign Affairs Karl Hood, Minister of State Denneth
Modeste and Governor General Carlyle Glean.
The meeting with
the CARICOM Chair follows a briefing in Jamaica recently with
