The Electoral Observation Mission of the OAS in Bolivia, led by the former Foreign Minister of Costa Rica, Manuel González, today delivered its recommendations for the next general elections to be held soon. The political forces of the country unanimously agreed to hold new elections following the cancellation of the October 20 election due to the proven intentional manipulation of the results and other irregularities.

The recommendations were produced taking into account the findings of the Mission itself, as well as the Final Report of Analysis of Electoral Integrity.
The document presents recommendations of different kinds: some for the next general elections and others that require more time for adoption and that will contribute to improve substantially the Bolivian electoral system.

The most urgent and those that the Mission considers can realistically be implemented before the 2020 elections are those related to the new formation of the electoral body and the organization of the process, as well as the implementation of technology.

The Electoral Observation Mission of the OAS deployed 92 observers in the nine departments of Bolivia from the beginning of the October until the completion of fieldwork on the integrity of the elections. The group of 36 experts and auditors began its work in the country on November 1 and delivered its final report on December 4.

As mandated by the Permanent Council of the OAS on November 20, from the Secretariat for Strengthening Democracy, through the Department for Electoral Cooperation and Observation, the technical support requested by the Bolivian State will be given to begin the next electoral process.
