The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today arrived in Honduras as an official guest to participate in the ceremonies for the handover of presidential power, to be held tomorrow in Tegucigalpa.

Shortly after arriving in Honduras, the chief representative of the hemispheric Organization was received by the outgoing President, Porfirio Lobo, who thanked Secretary General Insulza for the support given by the OAS to Honduras to overcome the political crisis in the country in 2009, which the Honduran President considered a pivotal moment in its history. He also expressed his satisfaction with the work of the Electoral Observation Mission sent by the OAS to the presidential elections held on November 24.

For his part, Secretary General Insulza thanked President Lobo for the trust he placed in the OAS and highlighted the importance of the work of the outgoing President which, in his view, contributed decisively to the normalization of political life in the country.
