The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, joins the voices of repudiation and condemns the massacre committed yesterday in the Tacueyó reservation, in the southwest of Colombia, where 5 members of the Nasa community were killed, among them the authority Neehwe'sx Cristina Bautista, community members and members of the indigenous guard.

“I express my complete solidarity with the families of those who were murdered, the wounded, the Nasa community and the people of Colombia, and I urge the competent authorities to investigate and punish those responsible for this cruel act in a timely manner,” said Secretary Almagro.

The Secretary General warned that the crime of drug trafficking is behind the actions and disputes of various illegal armed groups in Cauca, and their interest in controlling the territory, "in total disrespect, violation of and contravention of the rights of indigenous communities."

“I also extend a call to the indigenous authorities and the Government of President Iván Duque so that, together, they reach concrete solutions that allow for the control of the territory, the non-repetition of violence and the guarantee of rights of the indigenous peoples and communities of Cauca,” said Almagro. The OAS Secretary General welcomed the dialogue held within the framework of the Indigenous Minga that took place during the first half of the year.

Finally, the Secretary General reiterated the support of the hemispheric Organization through the Mission to Support the Peace Process in Colombia (MAPP/OAS), which maintains a constant presence in the area, monitoring the serious situation, making visible the damages and accompanying the efforts of the parties involved.
