R.A.P.P. Quelle stands
for “revered automatic powerful poet”. The young and ambitious artist
who describes his music as “everybody music that everyone can feel and
get in touch with” has been in the biz for 3 years. Growing up in
Nassau, Bahamas
Rappquelle, whose
real name is Quentin Glover, nourished his love for music from a young
age and he still has a special love for old music by artists such as
Nita Simone and bass player Jaco Patorius.
The young artist started taking his music more serious after he
graduated from High School in 2001, but was exposed to a lot of music as
a child by his parents. In 2002 Rappquelle moved to Freeport, Grand
Bahama where he worked with Cyclone Entertainment and some local artists
such as Kevin Fox and Jah Hem, whom he wrote songs for. Rappquelle, who
sees his music as a representation of the globalized world is focusing
primarily on hip hop music but he is no stranger to reggae. He has
recorded a song with Ky-Mani Marley.
In the end of 2002 Rappquelle moved to Miami, where he continued to
write and record music with a variety of artists such as Mecca Grimo, he
did spoken word performances and also gained work experience in music
promotions. Due to circumstances the young artist decided to take a
break from the music business but after a year he returned, unable to
ignore his main talent, passion and drive to make it as an artist.
Rappquelle returned to the studio, inspired by artists such as Talib
Kwele, an artist who keeps the essential core and roots of what rap is
and stand for intact while evolving and changing with time.
As a person Quentin Glover has admiration for Mahatma Ghandi, whose
philosophies have had an influence on Quentin’s life. Ghandi managed to
have a calming message in tumultuous and heated situations and times.
This ideal often also balances out Rappquelle’s music, which in the
contrary to the pacifist Ghandi is often more aggressive. Rappquelle
returned to his native Nassau in December 2007 to gain recognition in
his homeland and to build a fanbase in the Bahamas. His fans before were
in Sweden, Denmark and Florida, to name a few of the countries, but the
respect from home was a missing link.
Some of Rappquelle’s releases since then include “Stand Up” and “Death
Before Dishonour”. His songs and music are slowly being recognized in
the Bahamas, even though he likes to go “against the flow” as he
expresses it. Rappquelle still feels that the music industry in the
Bahamas is moving without actually going anywhere, which is slowly
changing. Rappquelle says he is “very proud to be part of this time and
generation”, a new generation of artists who have the chance to take the
music to another level and gain world recognition.
