Nassau, Bahamas - Red
Bull Art of Can is a national exhibition featuring artwork in various mediums
that all have one thing in common—they are all inspired by Red Bull or created from
its iconic cans. The juried exhibition is open to anyone with a flair for
creativity and the talent to produce art, sculpture or jewelry using the can
that will be put on display for a public audience to view.
Registration is free and is open to Bahamian artists’ island wide
from July 1st through August 31st 2009. Sculptures,
paintings, digital/graphic designs and various forms of mixed media will all be
considered.
A Cut Above
Red Bull Art of Can has very few rules but the most important are:
Artwork should be inspired by Red Bull or include the Red Bull can; and all
artwork must be submitted to drop off location or mailed by August 31, 2009.
All submitted pieces will be examined by a prominent panel of judges from the Bahamian
art industry at an exhibition to take place in September 2009. Judges will
review each piece based on Creativity (overall idea behind
the piece), Conceptual
Execution (how well the piece translates the idea) and Construction (the quality of production/final presentation).
The pieces with the top three (3) highest scores will be featured
in the 2009 Red Bull Art of Can Jamaica exhibition carded for October 2009 and
will receive regional recognition and exposure. The artist adjudged the
Bahamian winner will also accompany his/her piece to Jamaica to represent the
country at the final exhibition.
A select number of pieces from the Jamaican exhibition will also
be included in on-premise locations across the island. Additionally, judges
will award top honors to the three most outstanding creations. First place
honors include an all-expense paid trip for two to Paris for a premier modern
and contemporary art fair. Awards for second and third place will receive a
cash prize.
‘Aluminated’ Vision
The blue and silver Red Bull cans have captured the imagination of
thousands of artists worldwide that have crafted pieces utilizing the cans or
representing the fuel and energy they provide. Works from past exhibits include
a spectacular dragon sculpture soaring above clouds; a glowing six-foot- tall
beehive complete with a colony of swarming bees; an interactive computer program
that generates ‘canned’ digital sculptures; a glittering, floor-length ballroom
gown; and a six-foot-tall knight in shining armor.
The 2009 Red Bull Art of Can Final Exhibition will be hosted in
October in Kingston. Other Red Bull Art of Can exhibitions have taken place in
the U.S to include Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Houston
and Chicago. Red Bull Art of Can has a long international history which began
in Europe in 2000. Since then, exhibits have been hosted all over the world
including Prague, Switzerland, London, Dublin, Dubai, Budapest, Vienna, Warsaw
and Amsterdam.
