Nassau, Bahamas -- The Royal Commonwealth Society has launched the 2010 Young Commonwealth Competitions under the theme “Science, Technology and Society.” The competition is open to anyone living in a Commonwealth country under the age of 30.

Over 60,000 young persons enter the competitions, which are held under a different theme each year. The objectives of the competitions include the opportunity to nurture the creative talent of young people, encourage the youth to respond to current international events, enable young people to share their thoughts with peers around the world and promote the use of the English Language.

Participants may have the opportunity to take part in expert workshops with leading figures; meet with famous authors, film directors and photographers at a gala awards ceremony held in Central London’s Commonwealth Club; visit the BBC’s global headquarters, Buckingham Palace and other high-profile venues in the United Kingdom’s capital city; and win cash prizes and camera equipment among other accolades.

Commencing March 8, 2010, young people can enter either the essay competition (deadline 1 May, 2010) by visiting: www.thercs.org/youth/ essaycompetition ; the photography competition (deadline 1 June, 2010) by visiting: www.thercs.org/youth/ photoawards ; or the commonwealth vision awards (deadline 1 July, 2010) by visiting: www.thercs.org/youth/ visionawards
