Earlier this
year The Grand Bahama Tennis & Squash Club (GBTSC) held a successful junior
squash clinic which ran for two months, introducing the game to over 23 young
players, many of whom continue to play regularly every Saturday morning.
The Club now
aims to expand its outreach with an upcoming squash skills training weekend
slated for juniors on Saturday, November 8th and Sunday, November 9th for adults at 10am
each day.
The event
will boast a special guest coach from the USA, Wendy Bartlett, 30 year veteran Women’s
Head Squash Coach at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, one of the top
three college teams in the USA. Accompanying her will be former Trinity Squash
player turned professional, Colombian born Catalina Pelaez, who was recently
ranked 91st in the world. The
pair will lead both the youth and adult skills sessions during the weekend and
translate through demonstration, practice and motivational question and answer discussions,
the excitement and enthusiasm involved in the game of squash. Skills sessions
will cater to both beginners and players alike.
The visitors will also experience Grand Bahamas’ island charm and enjoy
amazing accommodations courtesy of Pelican Bay Hotel.
The Grand
Bahama Tennis & Squash Club is dedicated not only to the sport of squash but
is passionate about the game and the enhancement of the techniques involved and
required to continually appreciate its craft.
In addition
to the junior programme the GBTSC also offers free introductory adult coaching
sessions once a month.
