Pelican Bay at Lucaya Announces Appointments

Freeport, Bahamas - Pelican Bay at Lucaya has announced the appointments of Della Bridgewater as Operations Manager and Yvette Evans as Security Manager.   Also announced was the appointment of Chic Weddings Bahamas, under the direction of Marva Munroe, to plan and design weddings at the hotel.

Formerly a part of the Sales team, Marva Munroe has moved to another role and, under the banner of her company, Chic Weddings Bahamas, which will plan and design weddings for Pelican Bay.  Through this new joint venture Pelican Bay will continue to showcase itself as a premiere location for destination weddings in Grand Bahama.

"With the introduction of the Canal House, we see the wedding market (both local and visitors) as one of our most important sources of business. It is great to have a specialist like Marva Munroe focused on this segment, and we are looking forward to many years of successfully working together to bring more happy wedding couples to Pelican Bay", says Magnus Alnebeck, general manager, Pelican Bay.

“I’m passionate about special events, and weddings are no exception,” said Mrs. Munroe.  “Each happy and joyous event is unique in its own right and provides an opportunity to stage another magical and special experience for brides, grooms and their cherished guests at Pelican Bay.  It’s most heartwarming to have brides and grooms, who were married at Pelican Bay, and because of their memorable, happy and satisfying experience, refer their family and friends to the hotel to tie the knot.”

She added that “couples holding their weddings in the Delphine’s Grand Salon, Canal House, find it amazingly stylish and beautiful … the perfect spot for celebrating their nuptials.  I’m more than delighted to perform in this role and to band with Pelican Bay to promote these fabulous and fun occasions.”

The Canal House, a five-storey multi-purpose building of 30,680 sq ft (2,850 sq m) and meeting space (including balconies) of 15,600 sq ft (1,450 sq m) was completed last September.  Built at a cost of $9-million, the Canal House is the newest meeting and conference space for small groups, social events and weddings on Grand Bahama Island.

Della Bridgewater was introduced to Pelican Bay at Lucaya in 2005 when she did an internship in her final semester at Florida International University, Biscayne Bay Campus.  Intrigued with Pelican Bay, she returned to Grand Bahama Island upon graduation and was hired in the accounting department.   Quickly moving up the ladder, she was promoted to Acting Front Office Manager and was confirmed as front Office Manager in September 2007.

Della attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Management with a minor in Restaurant Management from Florida International University in 2005.   She is a Rotarian, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated – Grand Bahama Alumnae Chapter and a Toastmaster.  She is a member of St. Nicholas Anglican Church and is married to Jeffrey Bridgewater.  

“I am grateful for the learning experience I have received thus far through my employment with Pelican Bay,” she said.  “Since joining the company in 2006, it has certainly been an exciting journey and every moment has been worthwhile. This promotion has only revitalized my enthusiasm for a job that I am already passionate about. I look forward to the challenges ahead!”

Yvette Evans, Security Manager, Pelican Bay Hotel

Yvette Evans was educated at St. Anne’s Anglican School, New Providence and holds a myriad other certificates.  She has worked as an Air Traffic Controller at the West End International Airport and also worked as a Security Officer and Croupier at Princess Casino.  Yvette joined Pelican Bay in 2005 and moved up the ranks in 2006 when she became a Supervisor. She is a Grand Life Ambassador and Bahama Host graduate.

“Tourism is our number one industry and I've always had a yearning passion to be a part of it since childhood,” she commented.  “It was ground into me by my mother to show great respect for persons and their property.  Meeting and greeting people became easy for me.”
             
“Since joining Pelican Bay my knowledge of the hospitality industry has broadened due to the fact that I've also had the opportunity to enhance my technological skills, which I use daily to execute my work,” she added.

“Pelican Bay is a small hotel, with a staff that multi-tasks to give expeditious service to our valuable guests.  From past employment and experience gained on the job, I can work in almost any area at the hotel if such a need arises”.



Pelican Bay at Lucaya is owned by Sundt AS, a private investment company based in Norway.  Pelican Bay is the only investment that Sundt AS has in the Bahamas.  Sundt is also the majority shareholder of Pandox, a Swedish-based hotel property company.
