Bahamian fishermen fined $12,000 for breach of Fisheries Act

 “ARREST FOR BREACH OF THE FISHERIES ACT – BIMINI” 

BIMINI, Bahamas - Sometime between February 5th and 7th 2014, four Bahamian Fishing Vessels were apprehended by Police and Defence Force Officers in Bimini, where the captain and crew were found using apparatus in prohibited areas and processing under sized crawfish.     

They were arrested and the illegal apparatus confiscated. They were brought before the Island Administrator and fined a total of $12,000.00. 

In keeping with the Commissioners Policing Plan for 2014, the Prevention and Detection of Crime with support from other Law Enforcement Agencies, the Royal Bahamas Police Force in conjunction with other Law Enforcement Agency is sending a strong warning to those persons, who continually breach the Bahamas Fisheries Act, that they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
