Suspect shot in Acklins after attacking Police with a cutlass

Acklins, Bahamas - A 25 – year old man of Acklins Island is detained in hospital in stable condition under heavy police guard after he was shot during an arrest on Tuesday 25th march 2014.

Reports indicate that shortly after 1:00pm, police armed with a warrant of apprehension issued by the court, went to the home of the suspect in Acklins to arrest him for failing to attend court.

During efforts to apprehend the suspect, the suspect attacked the police with a cutlass causing the police to resort to the use of force by shooting the suspect in the leg. The suspect was taken to the local clinic and later airlifted to hospital in New Providence, where he is detained in stable condition.

The suspect was wanted for appear in court to answer charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Causing Damage and Resisting Arrest.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have any information regarding any crime, no matter how small or insignificant (the tip) may seem, to anonymously call Police at 919 or CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS (8477) (New Providence) or 1-242-300-8476 (Family Islands)
