RBPF Nassau: 11 foreign women among 27 arrested - 9 Friday morning arrests

Nassau, Bahamas - Police continue to put pressure on persons involved in criminal activity during a very intense island-wide anti-crime operation in New Providence last night.

During last night’s operation police made two significant arrests:

During the first arrest, police acting on intelligence arrested 10 adult males and an adult female whom they suspect to be a part of a major armed robbery ring. Police also recovered a number of cell phones from the men and woman suspected of being stolen during several armed robberies. Additionally, police will quizzed the men and woman regarding several recent murders.

During the second arrest, police acting on intelligence descended on a nightclub located in Rosetta Street, where they met 6 Jamaican women, 2 Dominican women and a Colombian woman whom they suspected to be at that location for the purpose of lewd dancing and solicitation for prostitution. The women were taken into custody for Breach of the Immigration Act. The club owner was also arrested for breach of the Business License Act.

The police operation team also arrested 5 other persons overnight for various offences to include, possession of dangerous drugs and stealing.

Last night’s operation was under the command of Chief Superintendents Clayton Fernander and Theophilus Cunningham.

MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS SEIZE FIREARM AND AMMO, 1MAN IN CUSTODY

A 23 –year old male of Pinewood Gardens is in custody after police arrested him for possession of an illegal handgun on Friday 19th December 2014.According to reports, shortly before 6:00pm, Mobile Division officers were on patrol at the junction of Sir Butler Highway and Carmichael Road, when they spotted a suspicious Honda vehicle being driven by the suspect. Police brought the vehicle to a stop and as they approached the vehicle the suspect threw an object to the ground. The officers retrieved the object and found it to be a handgun with ammunition. The suspect was taken into custody and is expected to appear in court early next week to be formally charged.

9 ARRESTED DURING FRIDAY MORNING OPERATION

An early morning police operation conducted in several areas of New Providence on Friday 19th December 2014 that targeted persons involved in criminal activity has resulted in the arrest of 9 people for a number of offenses including Possession of dangerous drugs, armed robbery and assault.The operation, which is consistent with the Commissioner’s 2014 Policing Priorities, was under the command of Chief Superintendent Ashton Greenslade.
