Suspect in custody for shooting Incident - 8 arrested during a police operation - Illegal firearm and ammo seized

SUSPECT IN CUSTODY FOR SHOOTING INCIDENT

Nassau, Bahamas - A 30 – year old man was taken into custody for a shooting incident that has left a man detained in hospital on Monday 15th December 2014.

According to reports, shortly after 12:00noon, a man was standing in front of his residence located at Graham Drive, when two men in a grey Honda vehicle fired several shots at him and sped off. The man received a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to hospital, where he is detained in stable condition.

Around 2:30am on Tuesday 16th December 2014, officers from the Flying Squad arrested the suspect in connection with this incident.

Investigations are ongoing.

8 ARRESTED DURING A POLICE CRIME SUPPRESSION OPERATION

POLICE are reporting the arrest of 8 persons for a number of offenses including Possession of dangerous drugs, house breaking and causing harm during a crime suppression operation on Monday 15th December 2014.

The operation was aimed at disrupting crime groups and targeting persons involved in criminal activities, such and Drugs and Firearms, Persons wanted for various criminal offences, Prolific Offenders, Persons wanted for Outstanding Court Warrants and motorists operating in Breach of the Traffic Laws.

The operation, which is consistent with the Commissioner’s 2014 Policing Priorities, was under the command of Chief Superintendent Ashton Greenslade

POLICE SEIZED ILLEGAL FIREARM AND AMMO

According to reports, shortly before 11:00pm on Monday 15th December 2014, officers from the Firearms Tracing and Investigation Unit were on motorized patrol on Andros Avenue, when they observed a group of men acting suspiciously. The men on seeing the officers dropped a plastic bag and fled on foot. The officers gave chase but were unable to catch the men. The officers examined the plastic bag dropped by the men and found it to contain a handgun along with a quantity of ammunition.


8 ARRESTED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS DURING 24 HOURS PERIOD

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrests of eight (8) persons during the past 24 hours for various minor and major offences.
