Armed suspect who shot at Nassau police, shot dead

Nassau, Bahamas - Her Majesty’s coroner is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was shot dead during an exchange of gunfire with police on Monday 19th September 2016

Preliminary reports are that shortly after 5:00pm, police were on routine patrol when they received information of a group of men gathered on Majors Road, Yellow Elder Gardens armed with firearms. When police arrived in the area they met the group of men, standing near some bushes. The men on seeing the officers immediately opened fire on them. The officers in fear of their lives returned fire fatality shooting one of the men. The other suspects fled on foot. The suspect who was shot by police was pronounced dead on the scene. Police also recovered a handgun from the suspect. Police conducted a search of the immediate area and found a magazine with a quantity of ammunition.

Police can confirm that the suspect who was shot and killed is on bail for a number of serious offences and is being electronically monitored.

Her Majesty’s Deputy Coroner, Andrew Forbes visited the scene and is now leading this investigation.
