Corrections officer found hanging in cell at Elizabeth Estates Police Station

Nassau, Bahamas - Her Majesty's Coroner, Mrs. Jeanine Weech-Gomez, is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a male officer from the Bahamas Department of Corrections, who died while in lawful custody for a domestic incident on Thursday, 16th March, 2017.

According to reports, shortly before 11:00 am, police officers discovered the man hanging in a cell at the Elizabeth Estates Police Station. Life saving procedures was immediately done by healthcare officials from the nearby clinic and EMS personnel responded to the station where life saving procedures continued while the man was transported to the hospital.

The man was later pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigations are ongoing.
