Drive-by shooting on Nassau St. - Drug arrest, 1 in custody - 4 illegal firearms seized

FOUR MORE ILLEGAL FIREARMS SEIZED OFF THE STREETS OF NEW PROVIDENCE

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Plan for 2017, police continue to ramp up efforts in ridding the streets of New Providence of illegal firearms, with the seizure of four firearms and several rounds of ammunition over the past 48 hour period.

In the first incident, shortly after 12:30pm on Friday 31st March 2017, Selective Enforcement Team officers were on routine patrol in the area of Bellville Circle, when they saw a group of men acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion. When the officers approached the men, they fled on foot. The officers gave chase and saw when one of the men dropped an object to the ground. The objected was retrieved and found to be a .45 Austria pistol. The suspect was subsequently arrested in connection with the seizure.

A few minutes later, shortly before 1:00pm, Firearm Tracing and Investigations Unit officers was on an operation on Madeira Street when they searched a premises and found a .380 pistol with 25 rounds of ammunition. No one was arrested in connection to the seizure.

In the second incident, shortly before 2:00am on Saturday 1st April 2017, Selective Enforcement Team officers was on an operation on Robinson Road when they searched an area outside a nightclub and found a .357 Smith and Wesson pistol. No one was arrested in connection to the seizure.

Later that same day shortly before 10:00pm, Mobile Division officers were on routine patrol in the area of Sunshine Way off Blue Hill Road, when they saw three men acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion. When the officers approached the men, they fled on foot. The area was searched and a black pistol was found. No one was arrested in connection with the find.


MAN ARRESTED FOR DRUG POSSESSION

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Plan for 2017, a man was arrested on Saturday 1st April 2017, after police found a quantity of dangerous drugs in the vehicle.

According to reports, shortly before 6:00pm, Mobile Division officers on routine patrol on Ferguson Way, Marathon Estates intercepted a silver Ford motorcar with one man aboard. The officers immediately retrieved an object the man threw to the ground and found it to be a plastic bag containing a quantity of marijuana and cocaine. The man was taken into custody in connection with the seizure.

POLICE SEARCHING FOR SUSPECTS IN SHOOTING INCIDENT

Police are searching for the suspects responsible for a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday 2nd April 2017.

Reports are that shortly after 4:30pm, a man was walking on Nassau Street, when the occupants of a vehicle pulled up and shot him before speeding off. The man was taken to hospital where he is detained in serious condition.

Investigations are ongoing.

POLICE PROBE ALLEGED DROWNING DEATH OF A TEENAGE BOY

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the apparent drowning death of teenage boy that occurred on Friday 31st March 2017.

Reports are that shortly after 4:30pm, the teenage boy was swimming in waters off the western tip of Arawak Cay, when he lost consciousness. The victim was transported to shore where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Investigations are ongoing.
