Driveby shooting in Nassau Village - 3 handguns seized, 2 men arrested

POLICE SEEK HELP IN SHOOTING INCIDENT

Nassau, Bahamas - Police are seeking the public’s help in solving a shooting incident that has left a woman detained in hospital on Monday 2nd January 2017.

Reports are that shortly after 10:00pm, a woman was standing among a group of persons in front of a home located off Alexander Boulevard, Nassau Village, when the occupants of a Nissan Primera vehicle pulled up and fired several shots before speeding off. The woman was shot and transported to hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

POLICE SEIZED THREE HANDGUNS, TWO MEN ARRESTED

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities, Firearms Tracing and Investigation Unit Officers seized three illegal firearms in separate incidents and took two men into custody on Monday 2nd January 2017.

In the first incident, shortly after 4:00pm, Firearms Tracing and Investigation Unit Officers, acting on intelligence conducted a search in the area of a building located at Mt. Royal and Oxford Avenue, wherethey uncovered a .40 pistol with 5 live rounds of ammunition. No one was arrested for this discovery.

In the second incident, shortly after 12:00noon, Firearms Tracing and Investigation Unit Officers were on routine patrol on Sir Milo Butler Highway when they intercepted a Honda vehicle with two suspicious men inside. The officers conducted a search of the vehicle and found a .380 pistol with 2 live rounds of ammunition. The men were subsequently taken into custody.

Then shortly after 10:00pm, Firearms Tracing and Investigation Unit Officers were on routine patrol on the Potters Cay Dock, where they saw a man who aroused their suspicion. The man on seeing the officers fled on foot. After a short foot chase the officers caught the man and found a pistol in his possession.

The man was subsequently taken into custody.
