RBPF Nassau: Police investigates armed robberies and traffic fatalities - Illegal firearm recovered -

POLICE INVESTIGATES ARMED ROBBERIES

Nassau, Bahamas - Police on the island of New Providence are seeking the public’s assistance in solving three recent armed robberies.

In the first incident, according to reports, shortly after 4:00pm, on Monday, 6th August, 2018 two men, one armed with a firearm entered a wholesale liquor store on West Bay Street, held employees at bay and robbed the establishment of cash before making good their escape in a grey vehicle.

In a second incident, shortly after 11:00pm, Monday, 6th August, 2018, a male armed with a firearm entered a wash house on Robinson Road and Minnie Street, held an employee at bay and robbed the establishment of cash before running away.
In a third incident, shortly after 2:00am, Tuesday, 7th August, 2018, a man had just arrived at his residence on Spikenard Road, when he was approached by two armed men, who robbed him of his red 2005 red Toyota Corolla car.

POLICE INVESTIGATES TRAFFIC FATALITIES

Police in New Providence are investigating two traffic accidents which have left two adult males dead.

In the first incident, according to reports, shortly after 9:00pm, Monday, 6th August, 2018, a male was walking on Carmichael Road in the area of Boatswain Hill, when he was struck by a vehicle causing serious injuries. Paramedics were called to the scene and as they were attending to the victim inside the ambulance, the ambulance was hit by a Ford Expedition, causing minor damages. The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. All drivers remained on scene and are assisting police with this investigation.

In a second incident, shortly after 3:00am, Tuesday, 7th August, 2018 a male was walking on Graham Drive, Yellow Elder Gardens, when he was struck by a silver 2 door car, which left the scene. Paramedics were called to the scene and attempted to revive the victim; however, he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigations are being continued by RBPF Traffic Department Officers.

ILLEGAL FIREARM RECOVERED

Shortly after 6:00pm, Monday, 6th August, 2018, Mobile Division Officers were on routine patrol on Palm Avenue off Wulff Road, when they observed a male running from a yard. Upon seeing the officers, the male begun acting in a suspicious manner, while holding onto the waist of his pants. As the officers approached the male, he pointed a firearm at them. One of the officers, being in fear for his life, fired his service weapon at the male, injuring him. The male ran from the area making good his escape. Officers made a check of the area and recovered a .380 Pistol, which contained 4 rounds of ammunition.

Investigations are ongoing.

SAFETY DRIVING TIPS – Obey all traffic laws
• Don’t drink, text or utilize anything that will distract you while driving.
• Obey the speed limits and traffic signal lights
• Be alert and ready to stop. Look out for people walking on the street, especially where there are no sidewalks.
• Be extra cautious around pedestrian crossing, slow down and watch out for children on the streets.
• Do not overtake, stay in your lane.
• Remember to slow down and drive for both you and others.
