Man shot in Nassau after attempting to knock down an officer with a vehicle

Nassau, Bahamas - A man who attempted to knock down a police officer with a vehicle is detained in hospital after he was shot on Tuesday 26th January 2016.

Reports are that shortly before 1:00pm, a police officer was on duty at Paradise Island, when a man driving a vehicle aroused his suspicion. The officer then signaled to the man to stop his vehicle, to conduct a search for dangerous drugs and firearms. The officer then asked the man to come out of the vehicle but he refused to do so. The man then reversed his vehicle a few feet and then drove at the officer with a high rate of speed. The officer in fear of his life discharged his police service handgun and shot the driver. The man received a minor gunshot wound was rushed to hospital where he was detained in stable condition.Investigations are ongoing.
