Man who assaulted a woman shot by police during car chase in Nassau

Nassau, Bahamas - Police shot an adult male after he assaulted a woman and attempted to endanger to the lives of several road users during a car chase on Sunday 3rd July 2016.

Reports are that around 9:00pm, police received a report of a man ‘beating’ a woman at a home located on Augusta and Ferguson Streets.

When police arrived on the scene the man jumped into a dark coloured Infiniti car and sped off.

Police gave chase after the vehicle and ordered the suspect to stop his vehicle, but he refused to do so driving recklessly at a high rate of speed throughout several communities in New Providence.At divers times during the chase, Police tried to stop the suspect who collided with several vehicles,but the suspect refused to respond.

However, the suspect continued driving recklessly east on to Bernard Road where he collided with a passing vehicle. In order to protect the lives of other drivers and pedestrians on the road police shot the suspect who ultimately crashed into a utility pole. The suspect was rushed to hospital where he is detained in stable condition under heavy police guard.
