Nassau Wanted Suspect Shot Dead Following Early Morning Armed Robbery Spree

Nassau, Bahamas - Wanted suspect Rony Jean was shot and killed by police shortly after committing three armed robberies on Wednesday 19th August 2015.

According to reports shortly before 11:00am, a man was at a convenience store located at Carmichael and Spikenard Roads, when a male armed with a handgun robbed him of his burgundy Cherokee jeep and sped off.A short while later, a man was at business establishment on Carmichael Road west, when a male exited a burgundy Cherokee jeep and robbed him of his Honda CRV vehicle and sped off.

Moments later, a woman was standing on the corner of Boatswain and Carmichael Roads, when a male pulled up in a silver Honda CRV and robbed her of two cellphones and gold chain before speeding off.

Police immediately sent out an All Points Bulletin (APB) for the vehicle. A short while later officers on patrol spotted the vehicle on Carmichael Road near Spikenard Road. A chase ensued and the vehicle turned unto Spikenard Road. The driver then attempted to turn into the Graveyard on Spikenard Road, but he struck a gate bringing the vehicle to a stop. The suspect exited the vehicle and police immediately recognized him to be wanted suspect Rony Jean. The suspect opened fire on police. Police returned fireshooting the suspect. The suspect was rushed to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police recovered a handgun from the suspect. Police also recovered the two stolen vehicles, the two cell phones and chain taken during the three arm robberies.

Police suspect the suspect Rony Jean to be responsible for a number of armed robberies committed over the past weeks.

Her Majesty’s Coroner, Mrs. Jeanine Weech-Gomez is now leading this investigation.
