Nassau police seize 3 more firearms, 2 in custody - Driveby shooting on Walnut St.

POLICE SEIZE THREE MORE ILLEGAL FIREARMS, TWO IN CUSTODY

Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Plan for 2017, police seized three more firearms and several rounds of ammunition over a 24-hour period.

In the first incident, shortly before 1:00pm on Thursday 9th March 2017, officers from the Mobile Division were on routine patrol on Iguana Way and Beldock Avenue, when they intercepted a Honda Civic vehicle driven by an adult male. The vehicle was searched and a Ruger Pistol with 16 rounds of ammunition was found. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody.

In the second incident, around 7:00pm on Friday 10th March 2017, officers attached to the Selective Enforcement Team were on routine patrol on Trelawney Gardens Road, when they observed two men standing on the side of the road. When they approached, one of the men dropped an object and they both fled on foot. The officers gave chase but were unable to catch the two men. The object was retrieved and found to be a .40 Smith and Wesson Pistol.

Then shortly after 9:30pm, officers attached to the Selective Enforcement Team were on routine patrol on Ida Street, when they observed a man standing on the side of the street. When they approached, the man dropped an object and attempted to walk off but was caught by the officers. The object was retrieved and found to be a 9 – millimeter Pistol with 4 live rounds of ammunition. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody for questioning.

POLICE SEARCHING FOR SUSPECTS IN SHOOTING INCIDENT

Police are searching for the suspects responsible for a shooting incident that has left a man detained in hospital and two women injured on Friday 10th March 2017.

Reports are that shortly after 10:00pm, a man accompanied by two adult female passengers was driving his Nissan vehicle on Walnut Street, when the occupants of a Honda Odyssey vehicle pulled along of side them and shot them before speeding off. The three victims were taken to hospital where the man is detained in serious condition and the two females were treated and later discharged.

Investigations are ongoing.
