Nassau Police Seize 6 Illegal Guns In 24 Hours, 2 Men In Custody

Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Plan for 2017, the Royal Bahamas Police Force is reporting that, through two coordinated operations, 6 firearms and several rounds of ammunition were seized over a 24-hour period.

In the first incident, which occurred around 9:30pm on Wednesday 22nd March 2017, officers assigned to the Selective Enforcement Team were conducting an operation on East Street South, when they saw a man acting in a suspicious manner. He was accosted, searched and a 9mm pistol and fifteen rounds of ammunition taken from his waistband. The man was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

Then a few minutes later, Selective Enforcement Unit officers were on an operation on East Street South when they observed a man standing in front of a home who aroused their suspicion. When they approached, the man dropped an object and ran. The object was retrieved and found to be a .45 pistol with 4 rounds of ammunition. The man was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.

In the final incident, which occurred around 12:00noon on Thursday 23rd March 2017, officers assigned to the Selective Enforcement Team were conducting an operation on Sea Link Drive, South Beach, when one (1) Springfield 9mm pistol, one (1) Smith & Wesson pistol, one (1) .40 pistol and one (1) republic arms pistol with 4 rounds of ammunition were found in a bag hidden in bushes. No one was arrested in relation to the seizure.
