Police investigates shooting incident and armed robberies - Illegal firearm recovered

POLICE INVESTIGATES SHOOTING INCIDENT

Nassau, Bahamas - Police on the Island of New Providence are investigating a shooting incident Thursday, 23rd May, 2019, which left an adult male dead.

According to reports, shortly after 4:00am, an off duty reserve police officer heard a commotion that appeared to be coming from his property in the Fox Hill Community. He became concerned and went outside armed with his licensed shot gun, where he observed a male breaking into a neighbor’s vehicle. Once his presence was known, the suspect acted in a threatening manner, resulting in the officer discharging his weapon and injuring the man. The injured man was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigations are ongoing.

POLICE INVESTIGATES ARMED ROBBERIES  

Police on the Island of New Providence are seeking assistance in identifying and locating the men responsible for two armed robberies which occurred over night.

In the first incident, according to reports, shortly after 10:00pm, Wednesday, 22nd May 2019, a woman was standing in front of a residence on Hill Crest Drive, Seven Hill Estate, when she was approached by a male armed with a firearm, who robbed her of her hand bag which contained cash and other items, before getting into a Honda jeep and speeding away.

In the second incident, according to reports, shortly after 1:00am, Thursday, 23rd May, 2019 a group of men were on the outside of a bar on Balfour Avenue, when they were approached by three men, one armed with a firearm, who robbed them of cash and other items before running away.

Investigations are ongoing.


ILLEGAL FIREARM RECOVERED – 2 MALES IN CUSTODY

Police have taken two men into custody, Wednesday, 22nd May, 2019 after an illegal firearm and ammunition was recovered.  

According to reports, shortly after 8:00pm Drug Enforcement Unit Officers, were on patrol on Dead Cat Alley off Masons Addition, when they observed two men sitting under a tree. The men upon seeing the officers began acting in a suspicious manner. Officers conducted a search of the men and a nearby abandon vehicle and recovered a 9 millimeter pistol and ten (10) rounds of ammunition.

The men were taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing.

30 FIXED PENALTY NOTICES ISSUED TO DRIVERS BY MOBILE
DIVISION OFFICERS IN PAST 24 HOUR  

Officers from the Mobile Divisions conducted road checks in various parts of the island. Their efforts, which were intended to educate, reduce crime, and to minimize the ability of criminals to commit criminal activity, resulted in the arrest of twelve (12) persons for outstanding criminal warrants, disorderly behaviour and stealing over the past 24 hours. 

Additionally, 30 drivers were ticketed for various traffic violations
