RBPF Nassau: 2 firearms seized, 3 in custody - 9 lbs marijuana seized - 121 drivers cited / 27 arrested

2 FIREARMS SEIZED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS, 3 PERSONS IN CUSTODY

Nassau, Bahamas - Police continue to rid the nation’s streets of illegal weapons with their latest seizure of two firearms and several rounds of ammunition, in separate incidents on Thursday 22nd January 2015.

In the first incident, shortly after 9:00am, officers from the Mobile Division were on patrol when they signaled to a man and a woman in a car to stop along Charles Vincent Street. The vehicle was searched and an unlicensed shotgun was seized.
A 26 – year old man and a 34 – year old woman were taken into custody for questioning.

In the second incident, shortly before 9:00pm, officers from the Mobile Division were on patrol when they signaled to a male driver in a Chevy truck to stop on Montrose Avenue. The man refused to stop and sped off. A chase ensued that ended on Wulff Road, where the male exited the vehicle and threw an object to the ground before fleeing on foot. The officers gave chase and caught the male after a short foot chase. The object was recovered and found to be handgun along with 10 rounds of ammunition.

A 19 – year old male were taken into custody for questioning.

LARGE DRUG SEIZURE AND 121 DRIVERS CITED DURING POLICE ANTI-CRIME OPERATION

POLICE are reporting the seizure of 9 pounds of marijuana and the arrest of 5 persons for stealing, causing harm and outstanding court warrants, as their anti-crime operation continued last night.

The operation which is consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, targeted persons involved in criminal activities, such as drugs and firearms, persons wanted for various criminal offences, prolific offenders and persons wanted for outstanding criminal warrants.

Additionally, 121 drivers were cited for various traffic violations.

The operation was under the command of Superintendents Clayton Fernander and Theophilus Cunningham.

8 ARRESTED DURING SOUTHWESTERN DIVISION OPERATION

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, Southwestern Division officers conducted an operation in the division on Thursday 22nd January 2015 that targeted persons wanted for various criminal offences.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 8 persons for shop breaking, housebreaking and outstanding criminal warrants.

The operation was under the command of Superintendent Matthew Edgecombe.

19 ARRESTED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS DURING 48 HOURS PERIOD


Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrest of nineteen (19) persons during the past 48 hours for various minor and major offences.
