Nassau police investigate traffic fatality - Dangerous drugs recovered

POLICE INVESTIGATE TRAFFIC FATALITY

Nassau, Bahamas - Police on New Providence, are investigating a traffic accident which occurred, Saturday, May 26, 2018, and has left an adult male dead. 

Reports are that shortly before 8:00am, a male was driving a purple and gray Toyota Tacoma on Prince Charles Drive, when he lost control of the vehicle and collided into a tree. Paramedics were called to the scene and made attempts to revive the male, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle but, were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Traffic Department Officers are continuing investigation into this matter.

DANGEROUS DRUGS RECOVERED

Thanks to members of the public and the dedicated work of the men and women of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, officers were successful in recovering a quantity of dangerous drugs from the streets of New Providence, in two separate incidents.

In the first incident, sometime around 1:30am, RBPF Marine Support Services Officers assisted by Flying Squad Officers and K-9 Officer Rexo, conducted a search of a vessel moored at a dock on East Bay Street, where they recovered 12 packages of suspected marijuana. 1 Bahamian male and five foreign nationals were taken into custody and are expected to be formally charged before Magistrate Court next week.

Weight of drugs: 60.2 pounds
Value: $60,000.

In the second incident, RBPF Marine Support Services Officers, conducted a search of a local mail boat which was moored at Potters Cay Dock and, recovered in one of the cabins, a quantity of suspected marijuana. An adult Bahamian male was taken into custody and is expected to be formally charged before Magistrate Court next week.Weight of drugs: 1 1/2 pound
Value: $1,000.

ILLEGAL FIREARM RECOVERED, 2 PERSONS IN CUSTODY

According to reports, shortly after 3:00am, Saturday, 26th May, 2018, Flying Squad Officers, acting on information, while on Collins Avenue and Fifth Terrace, Centerville, conducted a search of a 2006 Buick Car and recovered a 9 millimeter pistol and 7 rounds of ammunition. 

An adult male and female, occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody and are expected to be formally charged before Magistrate Court next week.
