RBPF Nassau: 2 shooting incidents - 20 arrests and 175 traffic citations - 6 arrests by Mobile Division

POLICE ISLANDWIDE ANTI-CRIME OPERATION LEADS TO 20 ARRESTS AND 102 TRAFFIC CITATIONS

Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, police conducted an island wide anti -crime operation that saw large contingents of police officers under the command of Assistant Commissioner Anthony Ferguson fan out across New Providence on Wednesday 17th September 2014.Yesterday’s operation was designed to disrupt crime groups and to target persons involved in criminal activities, such as Drugs and Firearms, Persons wanted for various criminal offences, Prolific Offenders, Persons wanted for Outstanding Court Warrants and motorists operating in Breach of the Traffic Laws. The operation resulted in the arrest of 20 persons for a number of serious and minor offences. Additionally, 102 drivers cited for various traffic violations.In addition to the arrests police also seized a handgun and a quantity of dangerous drugs.

TRAFFIC POLICE REPORTS SUCCESSFUL EARLY MORNING OPERATION

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, police from the Traffic Division mounted an operation in the Kemp Road and Englerston area on Wednesday 17th September 2014, that targeted motorists who were in breach of the traffic laws of the Bahamas.

The operation resulted in 73 drivers being cited for various traffic violations and the arrest of four persons for criminal offences.

6 ARRESTED OVERNIGHT BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrests of six (6) persons overnight for various minor and major offences. Additionally, 39 drivers being cited for various traffic violations.

POLICE SEEK PUBLIC’S HELP IN SOLVING TWO SHOOTING INCIDENTS

POLICE are seeking the public’s assistance in solving two separate shooting incidents that occurred on Wednesday 17th September 2014. In the first incident, shortly after 3:00pm, two men was standing in front of a business establishment located on Carmichael Road near Montgomery Avenue, when a man armed with a handgun, approached them and shot each of then to the leg before fleeing on foot. The victims were taken to hospital where their condition is listed as stable.

In the second incident, shortly after 5:00pm, two men were sitting in front of a home located at Bradley Street off Bellot Road, when four men in a silver Nissan vehicle pulled up and shot one of them in the leg before speeding off. The victim was taken to hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
