RBPF Nassau: Murder suspect shot during arrest - Saturday homicide victim identified - Firearm & drug arrest, 7 other arrests overnight

POLICE MAKE FIREARM AND DRUG ARREST

Nassau, Bahamas - Two men ages 32 and 24 are in custody following the discovery of a firearm and a quantity of dangerous drugs by police on Tuesday 29th July 2014.

According to reports, shortly before 2:00am, Mobile Division officers were on patrol in Whites Addition off Kemp Road, where they observed the 32 - year old suspect acting suspiciously. The suspect on seeing the officers fled into his home nearby. The officers gave chase and conducted a search of the suspect’s home, where they uncovered a quantity of marijuana. The suspect was then taken into custody.

Moments later the officers conducted a search of the 24 – year old suspect on the outside of the home and found a handgun along with a quantity of ammunition in his possession.

The two suspects are expected to appear in court later this week to be formally charged.


MURDER SUSPECT SHOT DURING ARREST

A 35-year old man is detained in hospital under heavy police guard after he was shot during an arrest on Monday 28th July 2014.

According to reports, shortly after 9:30am, Police acting on intelligence, went to Cowpen Road where they saw the suspect who is was wanted for questioning reference to murder and firearm possession. The suspect on seeing the officers fired several shots at the officers and fled on foot. The police returned fire at the suspect who managed elude them. The suspect later turned up at the Carmichael Road Police Station suffering from gunshot wounds to the body.

The suspect was transported to hospital where he is detained in stable condition.

POLICE IDENTIFY HOMICIDE VICTIM

POLICE has identified the man shot and killed at Baillou Hill Road and Meeting Street on Saturday 26th July 2014 as 25 – year old Clifford Cartwright of Telli Court off Cowpen Road.

7 ARRESTED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS OVERNIGHT

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the following arrests overnight:

Two (2) arrests for Outstanding Criminal Warrants

Two (2) arrests for Possession of Dangerous Drugs

One (1) arrest for Attempted Burglary

One (1) arrest for Burglary and Stealing

One (1) arrest for Causing Harm

POLICE are appealing to anyone with information regarding any crime, no matter how small orinsignificant (the tip) may seem, to anonymously call Police at 919 or CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS (8477) (New Providence) or 1-242-300-8476 (Family Islands)
