DEU MAKE FIREARM ARREST

Nassau, Bahamas - Police took a 16 –year old male into custody following the seizure of an illegal firearm on Wednesday 27thAugust 2014. According to reports, shortly before 8:00pm, police received a report of gunshots being fired in the area of Lightbourne Street, Yellow Elder Gardens. Officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit responded, where they observed the suspect holding a handgun in his waist. The suspect on seeing the officers threw the handgun to the ground and fled on foot. The officers gave chase and arrested the suspect. The handgun containing a quantity of ammunition was recovered. The suspect is expected to appear in court sometime tomorrow to be formally charged.

6 ARRESTED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS OVERNIGHT

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrest of six (6) persons overnight for various criminal offences.

POLICE SEEK PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE IN SOLVING ARMED ROBBERY

POLICE are seeking the public’s assistance in solving two armed robberies that occurred on Wednesday 27th August 2014.

In the first incident, shortly after 12:00noon, a man armed with a handgun robbed a convenience store located at Cottonwood Street, Pinewood Gardens of a small amount of cash before fleeing on foot.

In the second incident, shortly before 10:00pm, a man was at Mount Tabor Estates, when a man armed with a handgun robbed him of his black 2000 Yamaha motorcycle and sped off. Investigations are ongoing in both incidents.

POLICE SEEK PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE IN SOLVING SHOOTING INCIDENT

POLICE are seeking the public’s assistance in a shooting incident that occurred on Wednesday 27th August 2014. According to reports, shortly before 12:00 midnight, police received a report of a man being shot at Willow Tree Street, Pinewood Gardens. A short while later the victim turned up to the hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the knee. His injury is listed as none life threatening. Investigations are ongoing.

POLICE are appealing to anyone with information regarding any crime, no matter how small or insignificant (the tip) may seem, to anonymously call Police at 919 or CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS (8477) (New Providence) or 1-242-300-8476 (Family Islands)

CRIME PREVENTION TIP OF THE WEEK: DON’T LOOK LIKE AN EASY TARGET – ROBBERS WANT SOMEONE WHO WILL PROVIDE THE LEAST RESISTANCE. IF YOU LOOK LIKE YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING, WALK WITH YOUR HEAD UP AND EYES ALERT, YOU WILL MOST LIKELY BE LEFT ALONE.
