RBPF Nassau - Islandwide Anti-Crime Operation nets 68 arrest, 81 traffic citations - Seize firearm, one man arrested - Recover firearm - 16 arrested in 48 hours

ISLANDWIDE ANTI-CRIME OPERATION NETS 68 ARRESTS, 81 TRAFFIC CITATIONS

Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, police conducted an island wide anti -crime operation that saw large contingents of police officers from the Uniform Divisions under the command of Assistant Commissioners Leon Bethel fan out across New Providence on Wednesday 3rd September 2014.

During the operation police targeted Persons involved in criminal activities, such and Drugs and Firearms, Persons wanted for various criminal offences, Prolific Offenders, Persons wanted for Outstanding Court Warrants and motorists operating in Breach of the Traffic Laws.

The operation resulted in 68 persons arrested for a number of serious and minor offences. Additionally, 81 drivers cited for various traffic violations.

In addition to the arrests police also seized a quantity of stolen items and drugs.

At the end of the operation Assistant Commissioner Bethel commended the officers for their professionalism and excellent teamwork, which led to the successful operation.

POLICE SEIZE FIREARM, ONE MAN ARRESTED

A 23 – year old man was taken into custody after police seized a handgun Wednesday 3rd September 2014.

According to reports, around 11:30pm, police received a report of gunshots being fired in Garden Hills off Soldier Road. Police responded and observed two suspicious men in the area, who fled on foot. Police gave chase and caught one of the men who threw an object to the ground. Police retrieved the object and found it to be an illegal handgun. The suspect was taken into custody and the other suspect is being sought.

 

POLICE RECOVER FIREARM

According to reports, shortly after 11:00pm on Tuesday 2nd September 2014, officers from the Firearms Tracing and Investigations Unit acting on intelligence went to an abandoned building located at Woods Alley off Market Street, where they uncovered a handgun in an abandoned building. No one was arrested for this incident.

16 ARRESTED IN 48 HOURS BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrests of sixteen (16) persons in 48 hour period for various minor and major offences.
