Nassau shooting incident, 1 man dead - 3 armed robberies - Drugs seized and 25 arrests in Operation - 7 other arrests

 POLICE SEEK PUBLIC’S HELP IN SOLVING A SHOOTING INCIDENT, 1 MAN DEAD
Nassau, Bahamas - POLICE
are seeking the public’s assistance in solving a shooting incident that
has left one man dead and another man detained in hospital on Thursday
4th December 2014.
According to reports, incident, shortly before
2:00am, three men were driving east along East West Highway in the area
of Abundant Life Road, when they stopped to remove several large stones
that were blocking the highway. One of the men exited the vehicle to
remove the stones, when a man armed with a handgun approached him and
ordered the other two men out of the vehicle. The gunman was then join
by two other men armed with handguns who fired several shots hitting one
of the men to the back and the other multiple times about the body. One
of the males managed to flee on foot. The three gunmen then fled the
area on foot. The two victims were transported to hospital, where one of
them succumbed to his injuries and the other is detained in serious
condition.
Investigations are ongoing
POLICE SEEK PUBLIC’S HELP IN SOLVING THREE ARMED ROBBERIES
In
the first incident, shortly before 3:00pm on Wednesday 3rd December
2014, a woman was at her Sandilands Village home, when two males armed
with handguns robbed her of a large amount of cash and a cell phone
before fleeing on foot.
In the second incident, shortly after
12:00midnight on Thursday 4th December 2014, a man was fixing his
vehicle at Andros Avenue and Market Street, when he was approached by
three men armed with handguns, who robbed him of a laptop computer and
three cell phones before fleeing on foot.
In the third incident,
shortly before 1:00am on Thursday 4th December 2014, two women were
sitting in a vehicle at Ridgeland Park East, when they were approached
by a group of five to six men armed with handguns, who robbed them of
their handbags containing cash and a cell phone before fleeing on foot.
Investigations are ongoing.
POLICE SEIZED DRUGS AND ARRESTED 25 PERSONS DURING OVERNIGHT ANTI-CRIME OPERATION
POLICE are reporting the seizure of a quantity of dangerous drugs and the arrest of 25 persons for a number of offences including, murder, armed robbery and possession of dangerous drugs during an overnight Island-wide operation in New Providence on Wednesday 3rd December 2014.
The operation was aimed at disrupting crime groups and targeting persons involved in criminal activities, such and Drugs and Firearms, Persons wanted for various criminal offences, Prolific Offenders, Persons wanted for Outstanding Court Warrants and motorists operating in Breach of the Traffic Laws.
The operation, which is consistent with the Commissioner’s 2014 Policing Priorities, was under the command of several Divisional Commanders.
7 ARRESTED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS DURING 24 HOURS PERIOD
Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrest of seven (7) persons during the past 24 hours for various criminal offences.
POLICE are appealing to anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of wanted persons or any information about crimes and other illegal activities in their communities, no matter how small or insignificant (the tip) may seem, to anonymously call Police at 919 or CRIME STOPPERS at 328- TIPS (8477) (New Providence) or 1-242-300-8476 (Family Islands) or the nearest Police Station
WEEKLY PREVENTION CRIME TIP - SAFE AT HOME
• Make sure all doors to the outside have good, sturdy locks.
• Use the locks you have. Always lock up your home when you go out, even if it’s only for a few minutes.
• Secure sliding glass doors with commercially available bars or locks, or put a wooden dowel or broomstick in the door track.
• Make sure your windows, especially at ground level, have good locks and use them.
• Make sure all porches and other possible entrances are well-lit.
• Trim any bushes or trees that hide doors or windows. Keep ladders, tools, toys, and recreational equipment inside when you’re not using them.
• Don’t hide your house keys under the doormat or in a flowerpot.
• Keep written records of all furniture, jewelry and electronic products in a other secure place. Take pictures or a video, and keep purchase information and serial numbers if available. These help the police track recovered items.
• Clearly display your house number, so police and other emergency vehicles can find your home quickly.
• If you see a screen that has been cut, broken windows, or a door that’s been left open, don’t go in. Call the police.
• If you hear a noise that sounds like someone breaking in or moving around, quietly call the police and wait calmly until they arrive. If you can leave safely, do so. Otherwise, lock yourself in a room you are in, pretend to be asleep.
• Think carefully before buying a firearm for protection. Guns can be stolen and sold to anyone, or captured and used on you or the police.
