RBPF Nassau: Police capture armed robbery suspects following high speed chase - Pedestrian struck by vehicle dies in hospital - 2 Firearms seized - 23 arrested, 58 ticketed

 ALERT POLICE OFFICERS CAPTURE ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECTS FOLLOWING HIGH SPEED CHASE
Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2017, Police took five of six armed robbery suspects into custody following a high-speed chase on Sunday 8th October 2017.
Reports are that shortly after 3:00am, officers assigned to the Drug Enforcement Unit were on Routine patrol on Bernard Road near Jean Street, when they saw a suspicious Mitsubishi van driving with its lights off. The officers signaled to the occupants of the vehicle to stop but they refused and sped off. The officers gave chase and forced the vehicle to stop a few minutes later near a school in the area, where three masked males armed with firearms alighted from the vehicle and fired several shots at the officers before fleeing into nearby bushes. The officers returned fire but were unable to catch the three males. However, three males who remained in the vehicle were arrested. Two of the males who fled on foot were later captured in the area.
The officers conducted a search of the vehicle and found several ski masks along with a number of house breaking implements.
Police suspect the males to be responsible for a number of early morning armed robberies in New Providence.
PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY VEHICLE DIES IN HOSPITAL
Officers from the RBPF Traffic Department are investigating a the circumstances surrounding the death of an adult male pedestrian who died in hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Saturday 7th October 2017.
Reports are that shortly before 1:00am, a man was crossing Robinson Road near Washington Street, when a Nissan Skyline car driven by an adult male hit him. The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries late yesterday evening.
The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and is assisting police in the investigation.
TWO FIREARMS SEIZED
Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2017, Police seized two illegal firearms off the streets of New Providence in separate incidents.
In the first incident, on Friday 6th October 2017, officers from the Firearms Tracing and Gang Investigation Unit, were conducting an operation on Wulff Road, when they searched an abandoned building and found a pistol grip shotgun.
In the second incident, on Saturday 7th October 2017, officers from the Firearms Tracing and Gang Investigation Unit, were conducting an operation on Farrington Road when they searched a premises and found a .22 Beretta Pistol.
No one was arrested in these two incidents.
23 ARRESTED, 58 DRIVERS TICKETED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS DURING 48 HOURS PERIOD
Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2017, Mobile Division targeted patrols intended to reduce crime, and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities, has resulted in the arrest of twenty-three (23) persons during the past 48 hours for, murder, armed robbery, armed robbery, possession of dangerous drugs, stealing and outstanding court warrants.
Additionally, 58 drivers were ticketed for various traffic violations.

CRIME PREVENTION TIP OF THE WEEK - If a crime occurs – report it!
Everyone should consider it his/her responsibility to report crime. Many criminals target favorite areas and have predictable methods of operation. When you report all the facts
about a crime, it helps the police assign officers in the places where
crimes are occurring or where they are most likely to occur. If you
don’t report crime, this allows the criminal to continue to operate
without interference.
In many cases, it is the information provided by victims and witnesses that leads to the arrest of a criminal. So tell the police as much as you can; no fact is too trivial. The police need the eyes and ears of all citizens.
