POLICE ANTI-CRIME OPERATION YIELDING MORE SUCCESS, 1 FIREARM SEIZED AND 10 ARRESTED

Nassau, Bahamas - POLICE are reporting more success under their anti-crime operation – aimed at arresting persons involved in criminal activities and crime prevention.

During last night’s operation police recovered one high powered assault rifle off the streets of New Providence and arrested 10 persons reference to a number of criminal offences to include, firearm possession, possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply and outstanding court warrants.

The operation, which is consistent with the Commissioner’s 2015 Policing Priorities, was under the command of Chief Superintendents Theophilus Cunningham and Clayton Fernander.

DEU OFFICERS RECOVER ILLEGAL HANDGUN

According to reports, around 2.30pm on Wednesday 28th January 2015, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit acting on intelligence went to an abandoned building located at Jacaranda Street, Pinewood Gardens, where they uncovered a handgun.

No one was arrested for this incident.

10 ARRESTED DURING SOUTHEASTERN DIVISION OPERATION


Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, Southeastern Division officers conducted an operation in the division on Wednesday 28th January 2015 that targeted persons wanted for various criminal offences.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 16 persons for housebreaking and one person for possession of dangerous drugs.

The operation was under the command of Superintendent Maxine Leary-Rolle.

17 ARRESTED OVER 48-HOURS BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrest of forty-eight (48) persons over that last 24 hours for various minor and major offences.

Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding any crime, no matter how small or insignificant (the tip) may seem, to anonymously call Police at 919 or CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS (8477) (New Providence) or 1-242-300-8476 (Family Islands)

WEEKLY PREVENTION CRIME TIP - Car Theft

BELOW ARE SOME TIPS YOU CAN USE TO AVOID BEING THE VICTIM OF A CAR THEFT

• Never leave your car running unattended, even to dash into a business, store, etc;
• Never leave any keys in the car or ignition, inside a locked garage, or in hide-a-key boxes
• Always roll up your windows and lock the car, even if it is parked in front of your home
• Always park in high-traffic, well-lighted areas, when possible
• Never leave personal identification documents, vehicle ownership title, or credit cards in your vehicle
• Copy your license plate and vehicle information (VIN) numbers on a card and keep them with you. If your vehicle is stolen, the police will need this information to take a report
• If your vehicle is stolen, report it to the police immediately
