RBPF Nassau: Armed robbery - Dangerous drugs recovered - 47 fixed penalty notices issued to drivers

POLICE INVESTIGATES ARMED ROBBERY

Nassau, Bahamas - Police on New Providence are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a man, responsible for an armed robbery, Tuesday, 7th May, 2019.

According to reports, shortly after 9:00am, a man was standing in front of a home on Crepe Myrtle Road off Soldier Road, when he was approached by an armed man, who robbed him of cash before running away.
Investigations are ongoing.

DANGEROUS DRUGS RECOVERED - 1 MALE IN CUSTODY

Police have recovered a quantity of dangerous drugs in two separate incidents, Tuesday, 7th May, 2019 and have taken an adult male into custody.

In the first incident, according to reports, shortly after 3:00pm, Mobile Division Officers, acting on information conducted a search of a vacant lot on Flamingo Avenue, Chippingham, and recovered a quantity of suspected marijuana.
Weight: 5.4 lbs.
Valued: $5,400.

No arrest was made in this incident. Investigations are ongoing. 

In the second incident, according to reports, shortly after 5:00pm, Mobile Division Officers, were on patrol on Athol Road, Ridgeland Park West, when they observed a male driving a dark colour Honda vehicle. Upon seeing the officers, the male began acting suspiciously. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and recovered a quantity of suspected marijuana.

The man was taken into custody and is expected to be formally charged before a magistrate court later this week.

47 FIXED PENALTY NOTICES ISSUED TO DRIVERS BY MOBILE
DIVISION OFFICERS IN PAST 24 HOUR  

Officers from the Mobile Divisions conducted road checks in various parts of the island. Their efforts, which were intended to educate, reduce crime, and to minimize the ability of criminals to commit criminal activity, resulted in the arrest of six (6) persons for outstanding criminal warrants, possession of dangerous drugs, causing harm and fraudulent use of license over the past 24 hours.    

Additionally, 47 drivers were ticketed for various traffic violations including 2 drivers disobeying the traffic light, 5 drivers driving an unlicensed vehicle and 2 drivers driving a vehicle with non-transparent glass.


CRIME PREVENTION TIP - CONFLICT RESOLUTION

  • Look for ways to settle arguments and disagreements without violence. Remember: if you resort to violence to settle disputes, a child may well follow your example. Be a good role model.
  • Use good manners to help ease tensions that can lead to violence. Teach kids that showing respect for themselves and for the needs of others can prevent crime.
