COCAINE SEIZED AT LYNDEN PINDLING AIRPORT

Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2017, Drug Enforcement Unit officers along with K – 9 Unit officers are reporting the seizure of a large amount of cocaine at the Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) on Saturday 18th March 2017.

Reports are that around 6:30pm, Drug Enforcement Unit officers along with K – 9 Unit officers, during a routine cargo examination conducted a search of an unclaimed suitcase at LPIA and uncovered 13 kilos of cocaine.

Investigations are ongoing.

TWO MEN ARRESTED IN STOLEN VEHICLE

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2017, Mobile Division officers took into custody two adult males on Saturday 18th March 2017, after they were found driving in a vehicle taken during a recent armed robbery.

According to reports, shortly after 5:00pm, Mobile Division officers were on routine patrol on Willow Tree Street, Pinewood Gardens, when they intercepted a vehicle taken during an armed robbery on Tuesday 14th March 2017. Two males occupants of the vehicle were taking into custody for questioning reference to armed robbery.

FIREARM AND DRUGS SEIZED IN SEPARATE INCIDENTS, 4 MEN IN CUSTODY

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2017, Mobile Division officers took four men into custody after they seized an illegal handgun and a quantity of dangerous drugs during separate incidents over the past 48 hour period.

In the first incident, shortly before 6:00pm on Friday 17th March 2017, Mobile Division officers were dispatched to Fleming Street, after police received reports of a man firing off a gun in the area. When officers arrived on the scene, they saw when a man threw a handgun to the ground and fled on foot. The officers gave chase and arrested the man. The handgun was retrieved and found to be a 9 – millimeter Taurus Pistol with 12 live rounds of ammunition.

In the second incident, which occurred shortly before 3:00pm on Saturday 18th March 2017, Mobile Division officers were on routine patrol, when they saw two men acting in a suspicious manner on Crooked Island Street. The men were accosted, searched and a quantity of marijuana was found in their possession. The two men were subsequently taken into custody.

In the final incident, around 9:30pm, on Saturday 18th March 2017, Mobile Division officers were on routine patrol on McCullough Corner, when they saw acting in a suspicious manner. The man was accosted, searched and 70 small packages of marijuana were found in his possession. The man was subsequently taken into custody.
