RBPF Nassau: Drug bust at Jubilee Gardens - Firearms seized - 38 arrests

4 FIREARMS SEIZED AS ANTI-CRIME OPERATION INTENSIFIES

Nassau, Bahamas - Police are reporting the significant seizure of 4 more firearms of the streets of New Providence and the arrest of 19 persons for various offences such possession of dangerous drugs, housebreaking and armed robbery as their anti-crime operation intensified last night in New Providence.

The operation which is consistent with the Commissioner’s 2015 Policing Priorities targeted persons involved in criminal activities, such as drugs and firearms, persons wanted for various criminal offences, prolific offenders and persons wanted for outstanding court warrants.

Shortly before 7:00pm the operation team acting on intelligence executed a search warrant at a home located at Melvern Road, Yellow Elder Gardens, where they uncovered a handgun along with 4 live rounds of ammunition. Two males ages 50 and 35 along with two females ages 54 and 23 were taken into custody for questioning.

An hour later, officers from the operation team acting on intelligence conducted a search of an abandoned building located at West End Avenue, where they uncovered two handguns, a shotgun and 36 live rounds of ammunition.

The operation was under the command of Chief Superintendents Clayton Fernander and Theophilus Cunningham

DEU ARREST 4 MEN IN LARGE DRUG BUST

Four (4) Bahamian males ages 58, 22, 22, and 19 are in custody following a large drug bust on Friday 16th January 2014.

According to reports, around 2:30am, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit acting on intelligence executed a search warrant at a home located at Jubilee Gardens where they found four crocus bags containing 123 pounds marijuana. The marijuana has an estimated street value of $123,000 dollars. The four suspects were taken into custody as is expected to appear in court at a later date to be formally charged.

DEU OFFICERS SEIZE FIREARM

According to reports, around 9:00pm Thursday 15th January 2015, Officers from The Drug Enforcement Unit acting on intelligence went to West Dennis Court, Yellow Elder Gardens where they found a handgun containing 4 live rounds of ammunition.

No arrests were made in relation to this gun find.

5 ARRESTED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS DURING 24 HOURS PERIOD

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrests of five (5) persons during the past 24 hours for various minor and major offences.

10 HOUSE BREAKING SUSPECTS ARRESTED BY SOUTHWESTERN DIVISION OFFICERS

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, Southwestern Division officers conducted an operation in the division on Wednesday 14th January 2015 that targeted persons involved and wanted for various criminal offences.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 10 persons for housebreaking and one person for breach of the Immigration Act.

The operation was under the command of Superintendent Matthew Edgecombe.

STEALING FROM VEHICLES

• When at home park in the driveway instead of the street

• Leave light illuminating vehicles at night

• Install security systems in your vehicles and activate!

• Do NOT leave valuables inside your vehicle, where items are easily seen

• DO NOT leave packages or gifts inside vehicle in plain sight. Place in trunk of vehicle.

• Do NOT leave any containers inside vehicle that a thief could mistaken as being of value, (i.e. empty computer or electronic boxes, backpacks, etc...)

• Use common sense. Think like a thief.
