HANDGUN AND DRUGS SEIZED, ONE MAN IN CUSTODY

Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Plan for 2017, police took a man into custody following the seizure of a handgun and a quantity of dangerous drugs on Wednesday 28th June 2017.

According to reports, shortly before 6:00pm, Selective Enforcement Unit officers were on routine patrol on Samson Street, Nassau Village, when they saw a man who aroused their suspicion. When the officers approached the man, he threw a handgun to the ground and fled on foot. The officers gave chase, caught the man and found a quantity of marijuana on him. A .45 handgun with 7 rounds of ammunition was retrieved from the ground. The man was then taken into custody.

CORRECTION OFFICER ARRESTED FOR DRUG POSSESSION

A 45 – year old Correction Officer from the Bahamas Department of Corrections is in custody following the seizure of a quantity of dangerous drugs found in his possession on Wednesday 28th June 2017.

According to reports, shortly after 1:00pm, acting on information, Department of Corrections officials conducted a search of a Corrections Officer when he arrived for duty and found six ounces of cocaine in his possession. The officer was detained and handed over to Drug Enforcement Unit officers who took him into custody.

MAN SHOT DURING ARMED ROBBERY

Police are searching for several suspects responsible for an armed robbery and shooting that has left a man detained in hospital on Wednesday 28th June 2017.
According to reports, shortly before 12:00noon, a man had just exited a vehicle in front of his home located on Yamacraw Lane off Yamacraw Hill Road, when several men approached and robbed him of a bag containing a laptop computer and a cellphone. The men then shot him before speeding off in a red jeep. The man was transported to hospital where he is detained in stable condition.

Investigations are ongoing.
