RBPF Nassau: Illegal firearms and dangerous drugs recovered - Police investigates shooting incident

ILLEGAL FIREARMS AND DANGEROUS DRUGS RECOVERED –6 MALES IN CUSTODY 

The enduring and dedicated work of the men and women of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, has led to five illegal firearms and a quantity of dangerous drugs being taken from the streets of Berry Islands and New Providence, in separate incidents Thursday, 6th December, 2018 and six adult males taken into custody.

In the first incident, shortly after 2:00am, Berry Island Division Officers acting on information, conducted a search of a bushy area in Bullocks Harbour and recovered a .357 revolver. No arrest was made in this incident.

In the second incident, shortly after 11:00am, Southwestern Division Officers acting on information went to McKinney Drive off Carmichael Road where they observed two men standing near a vehicle. As the officers were approaching, one of the men produced a firearm and opened fire in their direction, before attempting to run away. Officers caught the armed man and recovered a .380 pistol. The second male made good his escape. No one was injured in this incident.

In the third incident, according to reports, shortly after 11:00am, Eastern Division officers conducted a search of a home at Hanna Road off Fox Hill Road and recovered a .380 pistol, eight (8) rounds of ammunition and a 12 gauge shotgun. An adult male resident of the home was taken into custody.

In the fourth incident according to reports shortly after 1:00pm, Flying Squad Officers, K-9 Officers and Officers from the Royal Bahamas Defense Force were at Burial Ground Corner, when they observed a male standing in a yard. The male upon seeing the officers, began acting in a suspicious manner. Officers conducted a search of the male and the property and recovered a .357 revolver and a quantity of suspected marijuana  The male was taken into custody.

In the fifth incident, shortly after 11:00pm, Southcentral Division Officers, acting on information, conducted a search of a home on Wilson Track and recovered a .45 pistol. Three men who were in the home at the time were taken into custody.
The men are expected to be formally charged before the Magistrate Court next week.

POLICE INVESTIGATES SHOOTING INCIDENT – 1 ADULT MALE IN CUSTODY

Police on New Providence have taken an adult male into custody in connection with a shooting incident which has left an adult male in hospital, Thursday, 6th December, 2018.

According to reports, shortly after 5:00pm, a male was at Rupert Dean Lane off Poinciana Drive, when he was approached by an armed man, who shot him before attempting to run away. A Police Officer who was in the area at the time, gave chase after the suspect and caught him a short distance away. The injured man was transported to hospital and is listed in serious condition.

Investigations are ongoing.

ARMED ROBBERY SAFETY TIPS –
  • PERSONNEL SAFETY FIRST! MONEY AND MERCHANDISE ARE NOT IMPROTANT AND CAN BE REPLACED
  • Stay calm and don’t resist.
  • Do as instructed and don’t make sudden moves.
  • Keep your hands visible at all times.
  • Get a look at the robber if possible, but don’t stare.
  • Activate the alarm only when it’s safe to do so.
  • If possible, get a look at the robber’s vehicle and the direction travel.
  • Do not follow the robber.
  • Install surveillance cameras and ensure that they are in working condition
