Nassau police nab 2 suspects for murder and firearm possession - 3 firearms, ammunition seized - 27 arrests / 12 citations

POLICE NAB TWO SUSPECTS FOR MURDER AND FIREARM POSSESSION

Nassau, Bahamas - A 24 – year old male of St. Margaret’s Road and a 17 – year old male of Sutton Street are in custody after officers from the Flying Squad arrested them on Thursday 16th April 2015 for firearm possession and two separate murders.

The two suspects are wanted for questioning reference to a murder that occurred at Union Village on Sunday 4th January 2015 and a murder that occurred at Whites Addition off Kemp Road on Sunday 11th January 2015.

Additionally, the two suspects are wanted in connection with a high-powered assault weapon found by police at Sutton Street on Sunday 12th April 2015.

POLICE SEIZE 3 FIREARMS AND A LARGE QUANTITY OF AMMUNITION

In the first incident, shortly after 3:30pm on Wednesday 15th April 2015, officers from the Firearms Tracing and Investigation Unit were on patrol on Market Street north, when they observed a man acting suspiciously. The man on seeing the officers dropped a bag and fled on foot. The officers gave chase but were unable to catch the man. The officers recovered the bag and found it to contain 61 rounds of ammunition.

In the second incident, shortly after 5:00pm on Wednesday 15th April 2015, officers from the Southwestern Division, acting on intelligence went to a dirt road off Cowpen Road, where they uncovered a shotgun.

In the third incident, shortly before 7:00pm on Thursday 16th April 2015, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit, acting on intelligence went to an abandoned building located on Old Trail Road, where they uncovered an assault rifle containing 8 rounds of ammunition and a handgun containing 4 rounds of ammunition in a crocus bag.

FLYING SQUAD OPERATION NETS 15 ARRESTS

The Police are reporting the arrest of 15 persons for various offences such as possession of dangerous drugs, firearms, armed robbery, and stolen vehicle as their crime suppression operation led by officers from the Flying Squad continued on Wednesday 15th April 2015.

The operation which is consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, targeted problem locations and persons engaged in criminal activities such as, murder, armed robbery, rape, shootings, stolen vehicle, firearms and drugs.

7 ARRESTED DURING SOUTHWESTERN DIVISION OPERATION

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, Southwestern Division officers conducted an operation in the division on Thursday 16th April 2015, that targeted persons wanted for various criminal offences.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 7 persons for housebreaking, armed robbery and outstanding criminal warrants.

5 ARRESTED AND 12 DRIVERS CITED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS OVER 24-HOURS PERIOD

Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrest of five (5) persons over that last 24 hours for various minor and major offences. Additionally, 12 drivers were cited for various traffic violations.
