8 ARRESTED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS DURING 24 HOURS PERIOD

Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2014, Mobile Division saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrest of eight (8) persons during the past 24 hours for various criminal offences.

POLICE SEEK PUBLIC’S HELP IN SOLVING SEVERAL OVERNIGHT SHOOTING INCIDENTS

POLICE are seeking the public’s help in solving four separate shooting incidents that has left a man dead and four men injured.

In the first incident, shortly before 7:00pm on Monday 17th November 2014, a man was standing in front of his home located at Alex Avenue off Cowpen Road, when he was shot multiple times about the body. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the second incident, shortly after 7:00pm Monday 17th November 2014, two men had just walked out of a bar located on Carmichael Road, when one of them was shot to the back of the head and the other to the thigh. The victims were transported to hospital, where they were treated for their injuries and later discharged.

A short while later police arrested a 40 – year old man of Hire Drive in connection with this incident.

In the third incident, shortly after 9:00pm Monday 17th November 2014, a man was standing in front of a building located on Odle Corner off East Street, when he was shot twice to the arm by a male armed with a handgun. The victim was transported to hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

In the fourth and final incident, shortly after 1:00am on Tuesday 18th November 2014, a man was found outside of a residence located at Joe Farrington and Fox Hills Roads, with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The victim was rushed to hospital where he is detained in critical condition.

Investigations are ongoing.

POLICE SEEK PUBLIC’S HELP IN SOLVING AN ARMED ROBBERY

Police are seeking the public’s help in solving an armed robbery that occurred on Monday 17th November 2014.

According to reports, shortly before 12:00midnight, a man was on Old Trail Road, when the occupants of two vehicles armed with handguns robbed him of cash and his grey 1998 Honda Accord vehicle license number 23241 before speeding off.
Investigations are ongoing.

WEEKLY PREVENTION CRIME TIP - REDUCING VIOLENCE

• Look for ways to settle arguments and disagreements without violence. Remember: if you resort to violence to settle disputes, a child may well follow your example. Be a good role model.
• Use good manners to help ease tensions that can lead to violence. Teach kids that showing respect for themselves and for the needs of others can prevent crime.
• Report crimes and suspicious activities to police; agree to testify when necessary. If you want to live in a safe community, stand up for what you believe in.
• Don’t support illegal activities, like buying stolen property or using illegal drugs. It’s the wrong message to send to a child, and it involves you in criminal activity. It also encourages more crime that hurts you and your neighbours.
