RBPF Nassau: Plane crash at LPIA - Shooting in Wilson Track - Ammunition arrest

POLICE INVESTIGATE PLANE CRASH AT LYNDEN PINDLING INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - (Nassau, Bahamas) According to reports, the pilot and four passengers left Venezuela at 1:00pm on Thursday 14th August 2014. The aircraft began to experience hydraulic problems about 300 miles north of Acklins and the pilot made a decision to head for Nassau. An emergency mode was activated at the Lynden Pindling Airport in order to accommodate the aircraft, which eventually skidded off the runway upon impact. None of the persons on board the aircraft was injured. However, the plane sustained minor damage.

POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING INCIDENT - According to reports, sometime around 8:30pm on Thursday 14th August, 2014, officers from the Central Detective Unit responded to reports of gunshots in the Wilson Track area. As the officers got in the area of Coleman Lane, a male opened fire on the officers. The officers drew their weapons and returned fire as the culprit was able to get into a waiting vehicle and sped off. The suspect led the police on a high speed chase, which eventually ended in the Bellot Road area off Sir. Milo Butler Highway. There the officers took him into custody. He was found to be suffering from multiple gunshots about his body. EMS responded to Bellot Road and transported the suspect to Princess Margaret Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition. He is on bail for a serious offense and was being electronically monitored.

CARMICHAEL OFFICERS MAKE AMMUNITION ARREST - According to reports, sometime around 4:00pm on Thursday 14th August 2014, officers from the Carmichael Division were on routine patrol on Carmichael Road, when they had occasion to stop a vehicle for reckless driving. One of the occupants exited the vehicle and made good his escape dropping a loaded magazine for a 9mm pistol. The 50yr old driver Iguana Way also exited the vehicle and attempted to escape, but was captured a short distance away. Police wish to see 25yr old Leroy Sands of Rose Court off Iguana Way for questioning reference to this matter.
