RBPF Nassau: 3 armed robberies - Firearm recovered - Arrest report

POLICE INVESTIGATE ARMED ROBBERIES

Nassau, Bahamas - Police also need the public’s help in solving an overnight armed robbery incident.

In the first incident, according to reports, sometime around 8:20pm on Friday 24th October a 18yr old male resident of Weighbridge Road was walking on Hasselmere Road off Old Trail Road when a lone male accosted him and produced a handgun and demanded cash. The assailant relieved the male of cash and a cell phone before making good his escape south along Old Trail Road on foot.

In the second incident, according to reports, sometime around 10:30pm on Friday 24th October 2014, a 28yr old male resident of Faith Avenue was sitting inside his 2003 Honda Accord vehicle in the Sunshine Park area when a lone male accosted him, produced a handgun and demanded him out of his car. The assailant then got into the vehicle and drove off in it;

In the third incident, a 33yr old male resident of Haynes Road reported that sometime around 3:00am he arrived home when a lone male accosted him, held an unknown item to his back and demanded cash. The assailant relieved him of cash and his cell phone. He made good his escape on foot.

POLICE RECOVER FIREARMS

In the first incident, sometime around 5:00pm on Friday 24th October 2014, officers from the Firearms Tracing and Investigations Unit acting on intelligence from members of the community went in the area of a dumpster on Step Street, Fox Hill where they observed a male acting suspiciously. The male ran and dropped a 9mm pistol loaded with two bullets. No one was arrested in the incident;

According to reports, sometime around 9:00pm on Friday 24th October 2014, officers from the Mobile Unit acting on intelligence went to a bushy area off Sea Breeze Lane where they recovered a .25 pistol loaded with 6 bullets. No one was arrested during this incident.

POLICE HOLD ISLANDWIDE INITIATIVE

On Friday 24th October 2014, the police conducted an island wide initiative, which resulted in the following results:

• The team went in the area of a local night club situated on Blue Hill Road south, where a group of males was seen congregating on the outside. As the men observed the officers, one of the men ran dropping a bag. Officers retrieved the bag, which contained a quantity of marijuana;
• The team arrested 3 males ages 48yrs of Deveaux Street, 25yrs of East Street and 28yrs of Water Street, for breach of a court order;
• The team also arrested an 18yr old male of Peardale and a 25yr old female of Wulff Road for deceit of police officers;
• A 41 yr old Jamaican male resident of Ross Corner was also apprehended for being in the country illegally;
• 77 motorists were ticketed for road traffic infractions.

ARMED ROBBERY PREVENTION TIPS

• Greet everyone who enters your business;
• Keep doors and windows clear of signs and posters to allow good two way visibility;
• Make bank deposits at least once a day;
• Install an emergency (panic) alarm;
• Make your sales counter clearly visible to observers;
• A clean environment is good for business and uncomfortable for robbers;
• Keep your business well lit inside and outside;
• Use a drop safe that is secured to the floor;
• Professionally install security cameras to capture the best images of the suspects
including on the exterior of the establishment.
