RBPF Nassau: Rape suspect caught in act - Police Operation yielding more success - 3 firearms seized

Nassau, Bahamas - The police are reporting more success under their anti-crime Operation initiative – aimed at disrupting crime groups and targeting persons involved in criminal activities.

During last evening ‘s operation three more illegal firearms were seized and a man was captured shortly after committing a sexual assault on a woman.

The first arrest occurred around 10:00pm on Sunday 7th December 2014, when officers from the operation team executed a search warrant at a home located at Peach Street, where they arrested an 18 - year old male after they found an illegal handgun in his possession. 

The second arrest occurred shortly after 11:30pm on Sunday 7th December 2014, when officers from the operation team arrested a 23- year old male after they found an illegal handgun containing ammunition in his waist at Arawak Cay.

The third arrest
occurred shortly before 12:00midnight on Sunday 7th December 2014, when police received a report of a sexual assault in progress at a home located at Shirley Street off Balls Alley. Officers from the operation team on arrival at the scene arrested an 18 – year old male of Okra Hill, who they caught ‘red handed’ sexually assaulting a woman. Police also recovered an illegal handgun from the suspect.

Additionally, police arrested 30 other persons for or a number of offences including, armed robbery possession of dangerous drugs and outstanding court warrants. Two clubs were also closed for operating in breach of the Business License Act.

Last evening’s operation was under the command of Sr. Assistant Commissioner Steven Seymour.

Meanwhile, the police are appealing to citizens to continue to offer support and to report suspicious activities.

Wanted persons are urged to turn themselves in to the police immediately and members of the public are reminded that it is an offence to harbour a criminal.
 
POLICE are appealing to anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of wanted persons or any information about crimes and other illegal activities in their communities, no matter how small or insignificant (the tip) may seem, to anonymously call Police at 919 or CRIME STOPPERS at 328- TIPS (8477) (New Providence) or 1-242-300-8476 (Family Islands) or the nearest Police Station
 

WEEKLY PREVENTION CRIME TIP – BUSINESS OWNERS
• Keep doors and windows clear of signs and  posters to allow good two-way visibility. 
• Use video surveillance and make it well known. 
• Make bank deposits at least once a day. 
• Place a surveillance camera behind the cash  register facing the front counter. 
• Install an emergency (panic) alarm. 
• Make your sales counter clearly visible to  observers. 
• A clean environment is good for business and  uncomfortable for robbers. 
• Keep your business well-lit inside and outside
