POLICE SEIZE TWO ILLEGAL GUNS, ONE MAN ARRESTED

Nassau, Bahamas - Consistent with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities, police seized two illegal firearms off the streets of New Providence in separate incidents on Sunday 8th January 2017. One man was taken into custody.

In the first incident, shortly after 8:00pm, officers from the Firearm Tracing and Investigations Unit were on routine patrol on Potters Cay Dock, when they accosted a man who aroused their suspicion. The man was searched and a .40 pistol containing one live round of ammunition was found in his possession.
The man was subsequently taken into custody and will appear in court later this week to be formally charged.

The second seizure, which occurred shortly after 10:00 pm, officers from the Firearm Tracing and Investigations Unit on routine patrol acting on intelligence, conducted a search of an area outside a building located at St. James Road, where they uncovered a .45 pistol containing 2 live rounds of ammunition. No one was arrested for this seizure.

POLICE ISSUE MAJORITY RULE DAY HOLIDAY WARNING TO MOTORISTS

POLICE are appealing to all road users to exercise extreme caution and extra care when driving during the Majority Rule Day Holiday.

Police message to drivers and riders is very simple.

If you speed, drink and drive, fail to wear your seatbelt, drive carelessly or dangerously, you run the real risk of killing or seriously injuring yourself, your passengers or some other innocent road user.

Everyone must take into account increased traffic levels over the holiday period and heed the road safety message.

Police will continue enforce the laws to make our roads safer, but the police role is very much secondary. All road users have a role to play in preventing deaths and injuries on our roads.

All police ask is that drivers slow down, do not drive after drinking, always assign a sober driver, wear a seatbelt and drive with greater care and attention.

ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT ANYONE ENGAGING IN CRIMINAL ACTIVITY, NO MATTER HOW SMALL OR INSIGNIFICANT (THE TIP) MAY SEEM, IS URGED TO ANONYMOUSLY CONTACT THE POLICE AT 919 OR CRIME STOPPERS AT 328-TIPS (8477) (NEW PROVIDENCE) OR 1-242-300-8476 (FAMILY ISLANDS)
