Nassau police hunt for suspects in 3 overnight robberies - Firearm seized - 8 arrested; 57 drivers cited

POLICE HUNT FOR SUSPECTS IN THREE OVERNIGHT ARMED ROBBERIES
POLICE are searching for several suspects responsible for three separate armed robberies that occurred overnight.
In the first incident, shortly after 7:00pm, three men armed with a handgun robbed a convenience store located at Taylor Street, Nassau Village of a small amount of cash before speeding off in silver Mercedes Benz jeep driven by another male.
In the second incident, shortly after 8:00pm, a woman was walking on Abundant Life Road, when a man armed with a handgun robbed her of her cell phone before fleeing on foot.
In the third incident, shortly after 1:00am this morning, a woman and a man had just pulled up to their home located off Bellot Road, when a man armed with a handgun robbed them of their gold Nissan Primera vehicle license number 246164 and sped off. The vehicle contained a cell phone, laptop computer, a printer and 600 pairs of air balance slippers. (See photo of vehicle below)
Investigations are ongoing.
FIREARM SEIZED BY SOUTHWESTERN DIVISION OFFICERS

Bahamas - According to reports, shortly before 5:00pm, officers from
the Southwestern Division acting on intelligence went to a bushy area
near a park at Bell Dock Drive, Bel-Air Estates, where they found a 12
guage shotgun along with 19 rounds of ammunition underneath an abandoned
vehicle. No one was arrested in connection with this discovery.
8 ARRESTED AND 57 DRIVERS CITED BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS DURING 24 HOURS PERIOD
Consistent
with the Commissioner’s Policing Priorities for 2015, Mobile Division
saturation patrols intended to reduce crime and to minimize the ability
for criminals to commit criminal activities resulted in the arrest of
eight (8) persons during the past 24 hours for a number of criminal
offences. Additionally 57 drivers were cited for various traffic
violations.

WEEKLY PREVENTION CRIME TIP – Vehicle Safety Prevention
Crimes involving your motor vehicle are crimes of opportunity. In an attempt to prevent crimes, you want to make your vehicle less of a target. The Royal Bahamas Police Force would like to provide you with some simple tips to help you protect your vehicle and your belongings.
• Secure your vehicle by locking all doors and rolling up the windows.
• Remove all personal property such as purses and wallets.
• Do not leave your cell phone, laptop computers or jewelry in your vehicle
• Do not leave packages in your vehicle, or other items that look as if they would contain items. Criminals often figure there are valuables in the packages.
• Park in well lit areas with lots of traffic.
• At home, leave your outside lights on, or install motion lights in areas where they cannot be
defeated.
• Limit access to your vehicle keys. Keep them with you, do not loan them out to others, do not leave
them in gym lockers, etc.
• Do not leave your vehicle running or your keys in the vehicle unattended.
