Nassau police investigate armed robbery and shooting incident

POLICE INVESTIGATES ARMED ROBBERY

Nassau, Bahamas - Police are continuing to investigate and are asking members of the public, to come forth with any information they may have in solving armed robberies and attempted armed robberies, which occurred over night.

In the first incident, according to reports shortly after 11:00pm, Wednesday, 30th May, 2018, two men were standing outside a home on Roosevelt Avenue off Jerome Avenue, when they were approached by two armed men who came from a white ford vehicle, who robbed them of cell phones before returning to the vehicle and speeding off. 

In the second incident, according to reports, shortly before 1:00am, Thursday, 31st May, 2018, a man had just arrived at his residence at Seaview Drive off West Bay Street, when he was approached by a male armed with a firearm, who demanded cash. The male was unsuccessful in obtaining his request, and as a result fired two shots before running away. 

In the third incident, shortly after 1:00am, Thursday, 31st May, 2018, a man was standing outside a home on Soldier Road, when he were approached by four male, occupants of a white Ford Taurus vehicle. One of the men who was armed with a firearm, robbed them of a cell phone, and cash before they got into the victim’s gold Nissan Sylphy and both vehicles sped away. 

In the fourth and final incident, shortly after 2:00am, a man had just arrived at his residence on Constitution Drive, Chippingham, when he was approached by a male armed with a firearm who robbed him of a black bag which contained two cell phones, before running away.
Investigations are ongoing.

POLICE INVESTIGATES SHOOTING INCIDENT

Police are investigating a shooting incident overnight, which has left a police officer with injuries.

Shortly after 2:00am, an off duty police officer was at Primer Avenue off Tonique Williams Darling Highway, when he was approached by two males who attempted to enter his vehicle. The officer manages to thwart the attempt resulting in the suspects getting into a gold vehicle, which was occupied by other men and made good their escape.

However, the officer pursued the vehicle, which came to a stop at Robinson Road and Lincoln Boulevard. The men got out of the vehicle and fired at the officer, resulting in him sustaining gunshot injuries. The officer returned fire with his service issued weapon, however; the men made good their escape on foot. The officer was transported to hospital where he is receiving medical care.
An island wide man-hunt has been mounted to apprehend these suspects. It is believed that these person may have been responsible for several armed robberies over the past few weeks.

Investigations are ongoing.
