RBPF Nassau: Police investigates plane crash - 85 fixed penalty notices issued to drivers

POLICE INVESTIGATES PLANE CRASH 

Nassau, Bahamas - Police are investigating a plane crash that has left two persons missing, on Thursday, 8th November, 2018.

Reports are that shortly after 8:00pm, Police on New Providence, received reports from Air Traffic Control that a plane had disappeared from the radar in the area of Nirvana Beach and believed to have crashed in waters nearby, a short time after the Pilot had reported that the door to the aircraft had flown open. 

Further reports are that the aircraft, a PA-27 six seater, registration #N8383C, left Lantana Airport, West Palm Beach, Florida, with two persons on board. 

Search and Rescue teams from Royal Bahamas Police, Royal Bahamas Defense Force and BASRA located the aircraft and efforts to locate survivors are being continued.  
Police and the Department of Civil Aviation will continue investigation into this incident.

85 FIXED PENALTY NOTICES ISSUED TO DRIVERS BY MOBILE DIVISION OFFICERS IN PAST 48 HOUR   

Officers from the Mobile Divisions conducted road checks in various parts of the island. Their efforts, which were intended to educate, reduce crime, and to minimize the ability of criminals to commit criminal activity, resulted in the arrest of thirty (30) persons for outstanding criminal warrants, breech of bail conditions, stealing and armed robbery, over the past 48 hours.  

Additionally, 85 drivers were ticketed for various traffic violations.

THESE INVESTIGATIONS ARE ACTIVE AND POLICE ARE APPEALING TO ANYONE WITH INFORMATION REGARDING THESE INCIDENTS, NO MATTER HOW SMALL OR INSIGNIFICANT (THE TIP) MAY SEEM, TO ANONYMOUSLY CALL POLICE AT 919 OR CRIME STOPPERS AT 328-TIPS (8477) (NEW PROVIDENCE) OR 1-242-300-8477 (FAMILY ISLANDS), THE CENTRAL DETECTIVE UNIT AT 502-9991/2 OR THE NEAREST POLICE STATION.  

SAFETY DRIVING TIPS – Obey all traffic laws

  • Don’t drink, text or utilize anything that will distract you while driving.Obey the speed limits and traffic signal lights
  • Be alert and ready to stop. Look out for people walking on the street, especially where there are no sidewalks.
  • Be extra cautious around pedestrian crossing, slow down and watch out for children on the streets.
  • Do not overtake, stay in your lane.
  • Remember to slow down and drive for both you and others.
