RBPF Nassau: Police investigates shooting incident and armed robberies - Illegal firearm recovered

POLICE INVESTIGATES SHOOTING INCIDENT


Nassau,Bahamas - Police on New Providence are investigating a shooting incident, Thursday, 18th April, 2019 which has left an adult male in hospital.

According to reports, shortly after 10:00pm a male was driving a scooter on Marcus Bethel Way off Infant View Road, when the occupants of a burgundy Nissan March pulled next to him and shot him before speeding away. The injured man drove to a nearby police station and was transported to hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

Investigations are ongoing.

POLICE INVESTIGATES ARMED ROBBERIES

Police on New Providence are seeking assistance in identifying and locating the persons responsible for several recent armed robberies.

In the first incident, according to reports, shortly before 1:00pm, Thursday, 18th April, 2019, two men were in the parking lot West Ridge Shopping Plaza, when they were approached by a male armed with a firearm, who robbed them of cash, before getting in to a red Ford Focus and speeding away.

In the second incident, according to reports, shortly after 10:00pm, Thursday 18th, April, 2019 a male was walking on Collins Avenue neat to 9th terrace when he was approached by two armed men who robbed him of cash and a cell phone before running away.

In the third incident, according to reports, shortly after 11:00pm, Thursday 18th April, 2019 a male was walking on Bay Lilly Drive, when three armed men in a burgundy Nissan March, pulled next to him and robbed him of cash and a cell phone before speeding away.

In the fourth incident, according to reports, shortly after 1:00am, Friday, April, 19th, 2019 a male was walking on Collins Avenue near to Wulff Road, when he was approached by two armed men who robbed him of cash and a cell phone before running away.

In the fifth incident, according to reports, shortly after 5:00am Friday, 19th April, 2019 a man was standing in front of a home in South West Ridge, when he was approached by an armed man who robbed him of cash before running away.

Police are appealing to anyone with information that can assist with these investigations is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 328-TIPS (TIPS), Central Detective Unit at 502-9991/2.

Investigations are ongoing in these matters.

ILLEGAL FIREARM RECOVERED – 2 MALES IN CUSTODY

Police have taken two men into custody, Friday, 19th April, 2019 after they were found in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.  

According to reports, shortly before 5:00am, South Eastern Division Officers, acting on information while at Goggle Eye Road, conducted a search of a grey Toyota Corolla with two male occupants, and recovered a .40 pistol and 5 rounds of ammunition. 

The men are expected to be formally charged before a Magistrate Court next week.

ILLEGAL AMMUNITION RECOVERED

According to reports, shortly 7:00pm, Wednesday 17th April, 2019 South Eastern Division Officers were on patrol on Plane Street, Pinewood Gardens, when they observed two men standing on the side of the street. The men upon seeing the officers, ran from the area, making food their escape. Officers conducted a search of the area where the men were standing and recovered a plastic bag containing 120 rounds of .762 ammunition.

Investigations are ongoing.

HOLIDAY SAFETY DRIVING TIPS –

  •     Obey all traffic lawsDon’t drink, text or utilize anything that will distract you while driving.
  •     Obey the speed limits and traffic signal lights
  •     Be alert and ready to stop. Look out for people walking on the street, especially where there are no sidewalks.
  •     Be extra cautious around pedestrian crossing, slow down and watch out for children on the streets.
  •     Do not overtake, stay in your lane.
  •     Remember to slow down and drive for both you and others.

HOLIDAY SAFETY SWIMMING TIPS FOR CHILDREN–

  •     Never leave children alone in or near water, including beaches, pools, bathtubs, sinks or toilets.
  •     Ensure that children swim in designated swimming areas while at the beach or pool. Always check the depth of the water before diving. If swimming in the ocean, check the current and under-tow.
  •     Be sure that every child wears proper fitting life jacket when on a boat or near water.
  •     Teach children how to swim. Get professional training, but never rely solely on the swimming lessons to protect your child from drowning.
  •     Learn first-aid and CPR, especially infant CPR.
