RBPF Nassau: Police involved shooting -Structural fire investigation

POLICE INVOLVED SHOOTING  


Nassau, Bahamas - Police on the island of New Providence are investigating a shooting incident Saturday, 29th February, 2020, which resulted in an adult male being shot. 

According to reports, shortly after 11:00pm, Officers were on routine patrol on Washington Street off Balfour Avenue, when they had reason to stop a black vehicle. A male came from the vehicle, armed with a firearm and pointed it in the direction of the officers. The officers being in fear for their lives, discharged their service weapons in the direction of the male, who ran to the rear of a home, where he was discovered deceased. A 9 millimeter pistol was recovered. 

Her Majesty’s Coroner will continue investigations into this incident. 

STRUCTURAL FIRE INVESTIGATION

Police on New Providence are investigating the circumstance surrounding a building fire at the Persis Rodgers Senior Citizens Home on Hawthorn Road, Sunday, 1st March, 2020.

According to reports, shortly before 5:00am, Fire Services Officers responded to the home after receiving reports that an unoccupied building on the property was on fire. As Officers were attempting to extinguish the fire, the building collapsed, causing injuries to three (3) officers. The injured officers were transported to hospital and are listed in stable condition. None of the residences of the home were injured during the incident.

Arson is suspected. Investigations are ongoing.
